Interstitium is an independent publication series developed and published by CRAI – Centro Rausenbach de Análisis e Investigación.

The Editorial Team is responsible for the scholarly direction of the publication, the commissioning and assessment of contributions, the coordination of revisions and the maintenance of a transparent and accurate publication record.

Daniel Artur Raus is responsible for the development and overall editorial direction of Interstitium. His responsibilities include identifying subjects and authors for potential contributions, considering preliminary proposals, coordinating the editorial assessment of invited manuscripts and overseeing their preparation for publication.

He does not participate in the assessment or publication decision for any contribution that he has authored or co-authored, or in relation to which he has another relevant conflict of interest.

Sandra Sáez-Morales contributes clinical expertise to the editorial consideration of subjects within her areas of competence. She participates in the assessment of invited manuscripts and may assume independent responsibility for contributions that the Founder and Scientific Editor cannot appropriately handle.

This includes contributions authored or co-authored by the Founding and Managing Editor, provided that she has no competing interest in the manuscript or in the research under discussion.

Editorial Responsibilities

The Editorial Team:

• defines and periodically reviews the scope and intellectual direction of Interstitium;
• identifies potential subjects and authors for invited contributions;
• considers preliminary proposals that may lead to an invitation;
• assesses invited manuscripts for relevance, accuracy, clarity and scholarly value;
• requests revision where this is necessary;
• considers questions concerning evidence, interpretation and publication ethics;
• seeks additional specialist advice when appropriate;
• oversees corrections and other necessary post-publication actions;
• ensures that the editorial status of each contribution is communicated transparently.

An invitation reflects editorial interest in a proposed contribution but does not guarantee publication. Every invited manuscript remains subject to editorial assessment and may be revised, declined or accepted.

Editorial assessment by Interstitium is not formal external peer review. Where a manuscript raises a technical or disciplinary question beyond the expertise of the handling editor, advice may be sought from an appropriately qualified specialist. Such consultation does not change the stated editorial status of the publication.

Editorial Independence and Conflicts of Interest

Editorial roles do not prevent members of the Editorial Team from contributing as authors. Authorship and editorial decision-making are, however, kept separate.

An editor does not handle a contribution when that editor:

• is an author or co-author;
• has participated directly in the research or publication under discussion;
• has a close personal, professional or financial relationship that could reasonably affect editorial judgement;
• or has another interest that could reasonably be perceived as compromising impartiality.

In such cases, the contribution is assigned to an uninvolved editor, who assumes responsibility for assessing the manuscript, requesting revisions and making the final publication decision. The author-editor takes no part in that process.

If no member of the Editorial Team can act without a relevant conflict of interest, an appropriately qualified independent guest editor may be appointed. If suitable independent editorial handling cannot be secured, the contribution will not proceed to publication.

Contributions authored by a member of the Editorial Team include a disclosure identifying the author’s editorial role and the editor responsible for the assessment and publication decision.
